This weekend St Anne's took part in the Brown Edge village well dressing festival.
We were lucky enough to win first prize with our float and we also created a scarecrow that stood in our car park and a well dressing for the well down at Job's pool.

On Wednesday 5th November, Year 3 and 4 held a V.E. Day. This proved to be a fantastic way to round off our topic on World War 2. We had previously visited the Stockport Story and Air Raid Shelters. We had wandered around the air raid shelters and played evacuees all day, learning how to “mend and make do” and salvage with 3 characters from the museum leading us.

We prepared ourselves for V.E. Day by making bunting to put up in corridors, classrooms and also and made a union jack each to wave as means of celebration. Miss Turner, Mrs Kirkham and Mrs Bailey prepared wartime food- (although not in ration portions!) and children dressed up in wartime clothes including ribbons in hair, knee high socks, woolly jumpers and cardigans and cotton dresses. All children and teachers looked the part! We spent the day by practicing for an air raid shelter when Mrs. Hall (head teacher) came in and waved a rattle so we al quickly put on our gas masks and pretended to walk to the air raid shelters. To make our day more realistic we walked around school singing Run Rabbit Run, a song popular in air raid shelters to entertain the children! Wartime music was played while we worked and I the afternoon our celebrations began. We listened to Churchill’s announcement of war being over and then played games such as marbles, jacks, snakes and ladders, hopscotch, skipping and piggy in the middle. Next we had a party with our wartime food- a diet of corned beef sandwiches, an apple and homemade fairy cake wrapped in greaseproof paper, followed by dolly mixtures, cherry lips, liquorice and boiled sweets and ginger beer, lemonade, tizer and dandelion and burdock. Both classrooms were decorated and we examined real war time gas masks, ceremonial flags and photographs.
Finally we ended the day by a visit from the potteries museum, re-enacting a scene from an air raid shelter with Zarak Curley (year 3) and Ella Barker (Year 4). A wonderful day was had by all. |

Year 5 and 6 children from St Anne's experienced a tremendous week at Shugborough Outdoor Education Centre recently (from September 22nd to September 26th). They were blessed by fine dry weather as they eagerly took part in a wide variety of activities. These included climbing, caving, BMX riding, canoeing, archery, orienteering, a camp fire and walk on Cannock Chase.
There were many positive comments from the children as they thoroughly the week. The staff who accompanied the children, Mrs Eardley and Mr Craddock, were also equally impressed by all the wonderful remarks given by the instructors concerning the children's behaviour and commitment.
Children have been successfully visiting outdoor education centres for many years. Next year, St Anne's is planning to go to Standon Bowers O.E.C. where they hope to have an equally enjoyable experience.
